Each month, we will be talking to a member of staff and finding out a bit more about them and what their role is within the charity.

This month, our spotlight is on Kushika (Kay) who is a Bank Counsellor for the charity.

Name: Kushika Popat (Kay)

Job Title: Bank Counsellor – Person centred

What is involved in your role?
To create a safe, trusting environment where my clients can explore their thoughts and feeling to facilitate change.

What is your background?
I took a complete career change when I reached 50. Coming from an admin and then retail background to training as a counsellor. Over the past couple of years, I have been working at the Crisis Cafe, supporting people with their Mental Health.

What motivates you?
That I could be that one person who could help make a difference to someone’s life, even if it’s just one person.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
That I could possibly be offering a relationship like no other.

If you could send a message out to the entire world, what would it be?
Time is valuable, something money can’t buy. So, make time to give time…and listen.

This month’s random question: What is the most irrational superstition you have?
When passing the salt, never give it to someone in their hand. Always put it down first otherwise it will end in an argument.
